Tarantino Is Back with Inglourious Basterds

The man has the touch of the old time filmaker (Hitchcock, Corbucci) yet his apt style is stamped indelibly on each of his works. From his hesit film genre (Resevoir Dogs) to his spaghetti western/samarai collaborations (Kill Bills 1 & 2) whet my appetite to see what his next project will be.
With Inglourious Basterds he is back stronger then ever with his own take on a World War 2 telling of an imagined group of Jewish Americans soldiers lead by Brad Pitt who scour the war torn countryside trying to scare the bejesus out of the Nazis.
He takes a moment from history whether historical or in his own mind and creates what us, the movie goers crave for and that is pure cinema art that is vital in it’s storytelling.
He gives us, the fans, a great night at the movies, that renders thought provoking dialogue at the pub afterwards. He has the sense about him that what he is building is a repertoire of great films that each displays it’s own originality, yet the undenial QT twist embed.
I’m not making movies with a soft dick, all right, my movies are still fully erect.”
From laugh to laugh, though the movie is not meant a comedy, the nervous tension is always palpable at the surface. He doesn’t revel in the grotesque use of letting us see Pitt and his men scalp the Germans who lie dead after their slaughter. Yet you feel the angst of the lone soldier left alive to recant the horrors of these wild Apache like warriors.
Enough of the spoilers. Go out and watch this film. It will be one of the years best. And as long as we have Taratino to claim as our own. All is well in Hollywood.
