Football Sunday At Last, So Let’s Talk Tennis

The US male population is getting ready to sit down for their annual beginning of the NFL, as today starts the full Sunday slate of games. The beginning of the season is always a sure sign, that the leaves will be falling soon and the apple pickers will be out en mass.

NFL

One of the best parts of the start of the NFL season, anyone can come in and win their first game, no matter how bad or good they look on paper. One missed conversion or lost ball can turn an easy victory into a loss before you finish your last chicken wing. Let it be said th9ose who start the wagering on this sunday, watch out, I personally keep my money where I always do. Going to some bill I have no idea I had already created.

So while everyone is getting ready for the big game, I instead focus my attention on the world of tennis and in particular the womens US Open final. Which placed top seeded Serena Willaims against Kim Clijsters. To say Serena had a melt down is a tad nice. As you see in the videos Serena, not only loses her cool, put takes a few steps down in the opinions of many people.

The NY Times calls Serena’s flare-up “a shocking display of vitriol and profanity” and Mike Lupica’s Sunday column really rails America’s most dominant player in the sport these days, calling it “a shameful performance” and saying she “got exactly what she deserved.” Williams did not win back any points for grace after the match, giving an unapologetic, nonchalant press conference saying she doesn’t live her life with regrets. She also told reporters that “my idol was John McEnroe” and continues her on-court sentiment that “people have done way worse.” She even defends herself that she had just been watching heated moments from Opens past in all the old matched\s being dug up by the networks and shown during the last two days of rain delays. (The media’s glorification of violence strikes again!) The press conference, called by Lupica “a ridiculous, disingenuous performance” is after the jump. Enjoy.

  1. As for me I’ve been concentrating on the English Rugby League (not to be confused with Rugby Union) games which this weekend is the last for the season; after which, they do the play-offs. I follow the English Premier League on Livescore.com since I play the fantasy football game on-line. I don’t know much about NFL but I bet it is just as exciting.

As for Ms. Serena…I’m just shock.
