Rambling Musings From a Man

Dealing with men everyday at my job keeps my perspective keen in regards to what they are looking for. Many men have no idea how a suit should fit them and even less knowledge on the material and craftsmanship. I feel most days I am mostly a teacher and friend.

Becoming friends with someone has always been one of my strong attributes, as for the later I am a patience teacher and believe a good one at that. Whether someone buys a suit from me or not, once they leave, I know that they are better equipped. And when they do go to other establishments to find a suit or jacket, it is gratifying that the knowledge I imparted to them will help them greatly in making a good decision.

There is so much information on the internet, in magazines, and various other publications, TV and radio, on and on. It can overwhelm the brain. I could go over many does and don’t, (which if you already started reading this blog already have imparted some to you}. The bottom line is how well the clothing you bought feels and looks on YOU.

If you feel insecure, no $5000 Armani suit will help you. As I always say to my clients “You wear the suit, don’t let the suit wear you”

A growing trend as developed in the last year, younger men starting to dress up more, especially suits. The trend of the 80’s and casual Fridays are becoming more of the past rather then what the future is. To me it is a cyclical cycle, although varying in degrees (hopefully the polyester leisure suit is gone for good).

  1. I’ve been reading along for a while now. I just wanted to drop you a comment to say keep up the good work.

  2. Thanks Rick, will keep trying.

  3. Let’s hope the Leisure suit stays in old family photo albums and not on anyone’s backside ever again. I like what you said about not letting the suit wear you. I love clothes and dressing up. I just don’t have a really good sense of style. I get away with it by pairing items from observing how pieces are put together in catalogs…or for example, if it looks good on the mannequin…I’ll take it!

  4. *Shivvveerrr* Leisure Suits? Please. No.

  5. Yeah dressing up is nicer for some random special occasion or work. I can’t understand how someone can wear a suit all day everyday for fun! Although I know people have different preferences for what’s comfy, etc. Still manages to do some boggling of the mind.

  6. Fashion is What I wear ?
    Right ?

  7. Hi Glenn? How are you? I have been really busy with work and on top of that, I came down with a flu. Hope you’re ok! Anyway, back to the suits – you know this post reminds me of my husband’s father’s story about the suits he wore to work. He was a bricklayer. He told me, that in the olden days, no-matter what your job was, people wore suits. He would have a work suit (with next tie and all!) and a very good suit he wore for special occassions. His good suit was tailor made and he told me of the personal service he recieves from his tailor and the banters exchanged. I guess the more personal the service is, the more bonding is developed between the client and the proprietor – which is, sadly missing is some places nowadays.
