Introducing Christine Gerani from”Spotlight on Long Island”

We are extremely proud to introduce our newest guest columnist to join MOB, Christine Gerani from Long Island. Christine is the Editor and chief hat wearer at SpotOnLI.com a daily blog concentrating on the who, what, and wherewithal of what’s happening on the Island where  New Yawkers hang their hats,  to get away from the 24/7 of the urban fast lane.

While most people in the US think of Long Island as synonymous with the Hampton’s, Christine has been instrumental in educating her readers, that there is a lot more that Long Island enjoys then hosting the summer homes of celebs like  Billy Joel, P Diddy and the haughty Bravo Housewives.

Her site is richly laid out and features great articles from where the best place to dine on the “days fresh catch” accompanied by, of course some great Long Island vino, to inexpensive activities the whole family can enjoy and afford, like apple picking and bargain hunting at local flea markets.

Her writing style is casually engaging and her knowledge of the island is encyclopedic.  So whether your headed for a vacation, or you’re a year round resident. Let Christine be your guide on the best bets, what not to miss and the whose-who of the famous piece of real estate called Long Island.

To give our readers a glimpse of what they can expect on SpotOnLI.com and also what to look forward to monthly here on MOB the following are a few experts from two of my favorite actresses from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Cheryl Hines and Susie Essman.

interview with cheryl hines Cheryl Hines

Cheryl Hines at the 17th annual
SpotonLI.com was lucky enough to briefly chat with Cheryl Hines – Director of Serious Moonlight, a film written by the late Adrienne Shelly and starring Meg Ryan, Timothy Hutton, and Justin Long. Cheryl Hines is also a co-star of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. In the flurry of Red Carpet pandemonium I was able to ask a few questions and she couldn’t have been more gracious. Alec Baldwin joined her for photos at the Hedges Inn where Cheryl received the RoC® Skincare “Gold Standard Award for Female Feature Director”.

Christine – Do you feel like this movie is a tribute to Adrienne Shelly who lost her life a few years ago?

Cheryl – Yes I feel like it’s a tribute to her of course, it’s exciting that her story that she wrote is being told, and so too is her own story, and in that sense I think it is a tribute.

Christine – You get to direct Meg Ryan and now you’re co-starring with her on Curb Your Enthusiasm?

Cheryl – It was really funny because Serious Moonlight came first, the next thing I know Meg and I are texting each other and she’s saying “Should I do Curb Your Enthusiasm?” and I said “Of course ya do it” So Larry’s the common factor here, Larry’s friends with Meg and friends with me. So we had an interesting exchange. It’s funny because I didn’t know what her role would be. Little did I know that we’d fighting for the same role on the show. I think it’s pretty funny……….continue to read the rest of the interview

Susie Essman

We Know What Susie Would Say

by Christine Gerani

We had opportunity to speak this afternoon with Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Susie Essman to chat about her new book; What Would Susie Say? – Bullshit Wisdom About Love Life and Comedy. Susie will be in Huntington, NY at the Book Revue, Tuesday October 20th at 7pm to discuss and sign her new masterpiece. Enjoy this fun and lively interview between Susie and SpotonLI!

Christine – Susie congratulations on all of your success.  Tell us about your new book.

Susie – Well, the book is called What Would Susie Say? – Bullshit Wisdom About Love Life and Comedy. Or as Al Roker said, Wisdom about Love, Life and Comedy. The thing that I want people to know with the book is that it’s not Susie Green.  People have the hardest time with me because they think I’m Susie Green.  It’s a thing I do called acting!  And I love Susie Green and I love playing Susie Green, but I’m not her.  So the book is really a compilation of essays, but it’s about just so many things in my life, some of it is just pure funny stuff.  Like one chapter I was talking about “Weather Porn” which is about how my husband is obsessed with the weather channel.

There’s a lot of stuff about being a parent.  I have 4 teenage children, actually one of them is 20 today so I can’t say that any longer, but she’s still a teenager.  There’s chapters about how I started doing stand up and how difficult it was for me and coming out of a deep depression and realizing my dream in life. There are chapters about my fathers’ death and how I learned to love sports and became close to him through my love of sports.  I left my heart in the Bronx.  I just got married for the first time a year ago at 53 years old.  There’s a chapter about Curb, the inside scoop and the back scene dish on Curb.  There’s a lot of different stuff, so I kind of sat down and wrote down; what is everything that I have to say?  And said it!

I’m the friend that everybody comes to for advice, so I figured maybe there’s something in here that somebody can use.

Christine – My husband and I saw you and Lewis Black at Gotham Comedy Club earlier this year and you both were absolutely amazing. Now you’re doing a book tour, is it anything like doing a comedy club tour?  Is it more work?……….continue to read the rest of the interview

So there you have it , a sampling of what you can expect to enjoy on SpotonLI.com and now here on MOB. We are so happy to have Chris add her thoughts for us. I know you will come to love her as much as we do.

  1. WOW…should be interesting to have a woman’s point of view on a man’s blog of thoughts…

So do tell…are you going to change your blog name now that you have a woman on board :)

    • D, now that all depends, if to say, for instance you agreed to do a column also. And we could get a few more womens opinions around here too. (which would be awesome). Then the name of the blog would still be fine, because then jumping overboard is something this man would want to do, ;-)
