Cuff-links are a decorative fastener which are worn to fasten the two sides of cuffs on the shirt. Cuff-links have been in existence since the middle ages where they were known as cuff-strings and worn by fashionable gentleman of that time.
The simplest cuff-link contains a short chain which connects two disk-shaped parts. Cuff-links are available in various shapes, sizes and colors which if selected properly can help you in improving your personal style and making a great impression amongst your friends, business colleagues and people who you meet for the very first time. This article will guide you with a few tips on how to select the best cuff-links according to the occasion which you will be wearing them.
Novelty
Cuff-links should be selected according to the occasion. There are two types of cuff-links: Novelty ie. animal or superhero themes based cuff-links which are appropriate for informal meetings or parties. If you are going for a formal occasion then you should select the Classic look: these cufflinks contain simple elegant designs.
Classic
Also you can wear cuff-links according to your profession. Business meetings for example, wearing a pair of cuff-links with a logo of your company on them. If you are selling a product you can select a cuff-link with a design representing what you are selling. You can easily get customized cuff-links according to your requirements. In case you are going for a job interview you should wear elegant classic cuff-links.
The other important factor in selecting cuff-links is its color. The color of your cuff-links should match with other accessories that you are wearing like belt, shirt, ring etc. For example, you should not wear silver cuff-links with gold accessories. Also having contrast between your shirt and cuff-links would make your cuff-links more noticeable. Wearing silver cuff-links on black shirt is a good idea. If your shirt design is pattern or striped then you should select cuff-links with simple and solid design which will compliment the design of your shirt.

The pair of cuff-links you wear says a lot about you. So select the pair wisely. Select cuff-link design and color according to your mood. For most of the people cuff-links are an after thought and little importance is placed on them but they should not be overlooked. They enhance and show that you pay attention to detail, for the complete look. An elegant pair of cuff-links help make you stand out from the rest of the crowd and gives you an edge up on making a lasting first impression.
There are no hard or fast rule for selecting a cuff-link and it depends completely on personal taste and occasion Cuff-links are making a solid comeback in mens fashion, selecting the right pair and using these simple tips will make your first impression a good impression
