Also if you go with a "Euro " cut suit a two button would look great on you. Some moderate priced Euro cuts are made by Talia orange label. But they tend to run a little short, so you might need in that brand to go to to 40 tall. The base of the back of the suit should sit at he bottom of your seat not hang way down past your seat.

Tony depending on your build, I would say your going to be a 38 or 40 regular. I would rather have it a little larger for it is easier to take in a suit then to let out. So see how you look in a 40reg first, Glenn

Very nice info, I've never owned a suit before and I need to buy one, i am a slim/skinny guy, about 5'10" so i guess i need the 3 button suit or a one button suit, here where i live we don't have a men's store with people that takes your measure, so i guess i have to try on some coats and see what fits. Thanks :)

Good advice. now I wish more men would care how they dressed and picked up a book, or read on the net, how to buy, and wear outfits.

Very good advice. A good men's store will have seasoned professionals that can look at your build and almost to the T find your size. What most men do not understand how suits are constructed off the rack. They are sized by 2's, in other words 38, 40, 42...etc those numbers are your chest size measurement. Then most suits today come with a pair of pants that are 6" to 7" smaller then your chest size, that is the "drop". Most men fall in that drop, but a good tailor can always alter the pants by usually and 1 1/2' smaller or larger to fit your waist.

I used to work in a nice men's store. Find a store where they measure you (with a tape, not by trying on coats) around the chest and waist. The measurement around your chest is your coat/suit size. A special fit suit may be needed if there is more than 8" difference between your chest and waist. Look for the coat to fall smoothly over your shoulders--no puckers between the shoulder blades, no fold or wrinkle under the collar.

I'm glad people agree... I think the next article should be whether the bottom button should be buttoned up or not... I'm a bit of a fan of leaving it unbuttoned... Gives that formal yet relaxed look...

Very contentious issue :)

Well this is great information. Too bad I am not in the market for a men's suit. But it was interesting to read. I didn't know it was so complicated.

Great breakdown of 1, 2 and 3 button suits. I would never wear a one button, and the three button is just too trendy. The timelessness of the two button is always how I fly.

Now, let's talk must have colors...
