Melanie Safka
A sentimental post of sorts today. I just finished watching the new movie by Ang Lee called Taking Woodstock, one film I think everyone should see. This isn’t a synopsis or review on the movie. However the first performer on the stage at Woodstock was a girl by the name of Melanie, short for Melanie Safka, who sang Beautiful People and a girl who I had a big crush on back in the ’70′s. I even got to sit next to her during an intimate concert here in upstate NY back in the day.

I am sure there are a few songs you have heard of hers and if not, I have posted many here for you, some of her original hits and a few covers. One in particular I just love from the Beatles, namely the “Long and Winding Road“, it was their last song together. So here if you feel, please take a minute and listen to one or two and maybe you can understand why this man , who almost 40 years ago fell in love with this beautiful person. Who by the way still tours occasionally and has grown old gracefully and her voice is even better then when she was younger. You might even get a glimpse of her very talented son who accompanies her on tour as an accomplished guitarist. Peace

I was like 1 when Woodstock happened, but I remember her from the ’70′s. Unforgettable voice that somehow defines a portion of that era for me.
