A Man Ranting: Who Invented This Machine?
There must be something in the water tonight, as I am in a ranting mood.
Although I think it started from yesterday evening where I had a piece of meat lodged in my throat until early this morning. A propensity from previously owning restaurants and eating on the go, fast and sometimes forgetting to chew.
I toughed it out and wouldn’t think of going to the ER to have them simply remove it. But for 20 odd hours of misery, it tends to make your mind think about some crazy assed things and your mortality.
Waking up this morning and able to swallow once again. My promises to God are starting to be fulfilled as I write this. I believe this is the part to be more socially responsible to help those who are in worse shape then myself.
So this rant tonight comes from an article I read at cryptogon.com today. Although it was originally posted in the NY Times on Jan 6th. Not to mention it has been twittered to death I am sure and picked up by every news media outlet.
It seems here in the US, especially, according to the article, that in New York City, Walmart uses machines that someone thought of, to literally destroy any clothes it has left over after the holidays that didn’t sell.
This from a company that showed almost a 7% increase over last year and a 46% increase of online shoppers.
H & M the worldwide conglomerate was not far behind, but their mechanism for dealing with unsold clothes was to merely punch holes in them or slash them with blades so they can not be resold.
NYC unemployment is well above 20%, almost a third of it’s residents are classified as poor and the temperature this time of year even made Ryan Seacrest want to hang inside with Dick Clark on New Years Eve.
Here is a recommended video called The Corporation that can be seen entirely over at YouTube.
I won’t be viewing it tonight. I need to be in a better place, as far as my head goes this evening.
I am just happy that I has not done in by a blocked esophagus.
PS: I also ranted this evening at a great blog called the Ancient Digger , in regards to a post about, how the French wanted to restore a very special church. It houses the painting “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. So in the rare mood I find myself tonight I basically thought why not let the French take care of it themselves. Why are Americans, the ones who are always asked to help donate and police the world?
So it is best I get away from commenting on any blogs tonight and call it a day. Mea culpa, Mea culpa, Mea culpa

That is pretty messed up that a company of any size, let alone the world's largest retailer, would destroy clothing just to keep from them being resold. From a business standpoint, it's wasteful. From a philanthropic position, it's just bad form. I've never been a fan of WallyvWorld (Wal-Mart, not the fictitious amusement park in National Lampoon's Vacation).
As to your rant on Ancient Digger, isn't it funny how other countries want us to help. When they need money, they come to us. When they need muscle, they come to us. Then all they do is bitch about how bad we are. Sheesh, ya just can't win.
My recent post Is your diet secretly holding you back?
I think, we think much alike. All I know is that it was shear stupidity on these corporate companies to think destroying good clothing would help anyone.
I was going to write an epic reply, but you summed up my own personal thoughts well. These sort of events (like the destruction of the clothes) are what keeps me from reading or listening to anything news related. Whether it's involving healthcare or what this article is mostly about, sometimes I just don't want to bother feeling angry at the actions of some of these businesses. I end up spending too much energy trying to conjure superhuman powers to set them straight. I haven't succeeded yet.
The other tidbit regarding Ancient Digger, also infuriating.

Well I can tell from all the feedback Jess, that everyone has been pretty disappointed in these two companies and the answers they gave for it, was even lamer. Time for us people to take a stand here and abroad.
I posted about this same subject on Friends Revolution Glenn, how ironic. This story made me sick. Just reminds me why I hate big business. Oh, and the Last Supper in that Church was a rendition of the piece. I'm not exactly sure what significance the site has, horrible for me to say, but I'm not sure it should concern me anyway. I loved your rant, and yes, I did publish it.
Thanks for the Linky love by the way. I'm going to link back to this post from mine on my other blog.
My recent post Walmart and H &M New York Destroy Unsold Clothing
I just read yours Lauren and it is funny how we both picked the same thing to write about. Although it is very hard to turn your back to something as grossly stupid as this story is.
Hi, Glenn! Man, I'm glad you didn't choke to death! Who would be there to help me with my blog? Seriously, I'm glad pulled you through but poor Dick Clark is not looking much better by your photo. Didn't get the American celebrations televised for the New Year in the Philippines; all people do here is shoot off a bunch of fireworks or guns and dismember or kill themselves. It's a fun time. Happy 2010 to you, Glenn, and take care.
My recent post In the Philippines, Don't Pee in the Pool!
Thank you Dave my friend. Yo have me pissing my pants on how your described New years in the Philippines. You need to go on TV, really!!!
Hey, maybe they are really just trying to start a new fashion trend? After all, all of those jeans that have been so popular look like they have been ripped to shreds!
Don't mind fashion trends, but give people the opportunity to at least wear them. Not destroy or trash them for no good reason.
It's true that ranting indiscriminately can be dangerous to those who just happen to be standing within range
But it's obvious that you are a passionate person and when passionate people get riled up it can be difficult to comprehend just where you should be directing your emotion. Now that you have given your ire much more on target, it's easy to see that you are frustrated with the corporate machine's complete oblivious disregard to the needs of individuals. Apparently greed on the corporate scale strips away all traces of compassion from whatever people are involved in the decision making process. Alas it has always been so.
Did we not all once as mere children dream of making the world a better place? How frustrating it is to find that human nature does not evolve as it should and our efforts yield so little change in the world. Compassion and empathy are things we can only truly cultivate within ourselves and hope that others will follow our examples. Change is slow, if not imperceptible, but must always start with the individual.
Today, the Angel is full of philosophical drivel. As she always has been, I just usually keep it to myself.

Good post and a great read , thank you my friendly Angel.
I think sometimes it is good to rant. Just shows that you care enough to go ahead and rant. Sure am glad you are all right and didn't choke to death. It is so true that we are all so much better off than a lot of other people.

Marg thank you, I am glad I didn't choke to death either. It is good to get things off your chest as humans, but I much prefer being an animal, seems it takes very little for them to be happy. A simple pet or treat, even a lap to lie on. More then that if they ever get mistreated, they never hold it against you and are right back waiting for your love.
latro : (-are) to bark, bay / rant /runble, roar. I looked this up in honor of you using Latin. I tried "what the fuck", "bullshit", "no way", "crap". Apparently, Latin is not to jiggy with our slang. How dare these guys waste perfectly good clothes? Plus, they are wasting a perfectly good, good-will opportunity. The Peter principle is in good working order. We must get Obama and AlGore on this right away, cause, they care about people, right?
My recent post A BUCKET LIST, A NEW DECADE, AND MOVING ON
Loved your comment Don!!! As I have stated many times already they make you want to rant because of their complete lack of caring for others. Don't forget to stop by and see Don at his blog also!!
The US really is the "parent" . We give and give and all we get is grumbly disrespect from our teenagers. Maybe we will be appreciated if the kids ever grow up and become responsible for themselves.
Perhaps we can use the power of the internet to shine more light on this wasteful practice and push more social responsibility!
My recent post LOST – The Final Season
Getting started on teenagers can last another ten posts, LOL. I have one teen left and to think you're just starting. Good luck and if you need any advice, don't ask me, I still can't figure them out, much like a me and women
Glad you got that bit of food to dislodge. You need to think about this pain every time you get ready to eat something. Just saying my friend.
Everyone asks the U.S. for stuff because everyone thinks the streets are lined in gold. They just don't know the real truth.
Have a terrific day and weekend Glenn. Big hugs.

Thanks for your caring Sandee and right on with your statement , people think our streets are lined with gold.
D performs the Heimlich maneuver on Glenn
So glad to hear that you have learned the importance of 'chew…chew…& chew' some more
So true what Sandy has said about people not getting it…the fact that America is so not the road to prosperity anymore. I have lived there for 7 years and I myself tell Canadians to count their blessings and quit complaining as they do not know how good they have it.
As far as the torn look fad…I have a daughter that probably has a small fortune of those shredded things in her closet…because hey…it is all about fashion to some

I commend you because someone has to do it….most people do their little bit in the corners of the office or in the local stitch & bitch club….but rarely do they rant where it counts and can be effective
Time to get back to basics and for those who dare to rant…
My recent post Love..Lust..Sex!
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement D. You always add great comments into the discussions. I also LOVE your recent posts, when they show up on my blog. The titles alone will get lots of readers pounding a path to your blog!!!
Ranting is a great form of therapy. Of course, you know I do it all the time. I hadn't heard about this until now…..and especially glad you didn't have to visit your local ER
Remember to chew your food t-h-o-r-o-u-g-h-l-y then swallow….:)
My recent post Harry Reid – You Sho Is Done Cooked Yo Goose Wit Me!
Yes mommy and thank you Roschelle. I will chew chew chew. It all comes down to slowing down. In most things in general, we are all in to much of a hurry it seems to go no where.
We had a problem many years ago in the UK whereby retailers were giving away food past it's sell by date to the poor and homeless, which was great, but then some dick head sued them because he said he got food poisoning from it, and now they don't do it for obvious reasons, we are a victim of our own selves sometimes, but this just takes the piss,
There are millions of homeless people out there that would give an arm for a jumper or coat, poor families that could benefit from some extra new clothes for there kids, but instead these tossers maliciously destroy it instead, why!!?? you cant get food poisoning from clothes or some weird disease so whats the problem.
Unforgiveable……..
My recent post 10 Useless Facts To Impress Your Mates With
I saw a documentary on that story in Britain about the lawsuits. Amazing, isn't it? As far as the clothing, nothing amazes me anymore, with large corps and their greed.
Having experienced getting food stuck I know the misery involved – glad you've gotten past it.
We've seen the movie "The Corporation" (have it here on DVD matter of fact) and it's truly an eye-opener that you can't help but shake your head in disgust over many of the actions, thoughts and policies followed by other wasteful companies.
The fact that in this day and age a company with the cash reserves and resources the size of Wal Mart or even H&M for that matter, would choose to destroy unsold merchandise rather than find a way to get it to charities that can in turn help out those in our society that need it is infuriating. A horribly missed opportunity, and a sad statement on the irresponsibility of America's retail giants.
My recent post NEW WASHER AND DRYER
I have the Corp on DVD also. I loved it, my wife wouldn't sit through 5 minutes of it. Good to see J Giddy back in town. the holidays must have played havoc on my Bone man, but good huh?
