R.I.P. Teddy
I am a bit late on getting this out to you. Today we all say good bye to Teddy Pendergrass . A voice that could send shivers up your spine and for women everywhere’s else. From his old days with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes to his last offering that I could remember called “Truly Blessed.
The Philadelphia soul singer whose husky, potent baritone was one definition of R&B seduction in the 1970s but whose career was transformed in 1982 when he was severely paralyzed in an auto accident, died on Wednesday night in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He was 59. He was a “Class Act”
I leave you with two of my favorite songs, not just his songs, but two of my all time favorites period. As a matter of fact I wore out both the vinyl and cassette tape of the first song “Wake Up Everybody”, (it always reminded me of his take of Marvin Gaye’s “Whats Going On”). The second song is “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”, both songs I know by heart.

Wow….Soul Train! My mom used to let me stay up on Saturday nights to watch with her. Some true talent graced that stage. Teddy was definitely one of them. Great tribute Glen!

Amen
There is no doubt, dear Glenn, that the movement of soul music, cries this heavy loss, as a man and as a singer. Hardly even a singer with this tone of voice.

I'm new to your blog, I've not commented as yet, but I couldn't resist today…
Wonderful tribute to a "Class Act"…If You Don't Know Me By Now, is one of my all time favorites as well…in fact played the video twice, while I sung along!!! :0)
Cheers
I have to agree with you Heather. If You Don't Know Me By Now is just "one of those songs". The kind that just reaches down inside and touches your heart and soul. Probably because we've all had experiences that we can tie it's lyrics.
It's so sad that so sweet a voice has passed. His music made the world a better place.

He was such a classy guy, good looking, velvet voice, but never conceited or cocky. He will be missed Jo
Great to have you comment Heather. I used to never comment on peoples blogs, now I do it all the time. I think it makes the blog owner more enthused about his posts and knows people are reading them. Have a great day

Legends never die, heck every time I watch the Yankees I always am reminded of Frank Sinatra and him singing New York New York…..
Very nice tribute. He had a tremendous voice – and with Harold Melvin and that whole Philadelphia Soul sound of the 70's produced some great music – "If You Don't Know Me" is one of my favorites as well.
Philly and the sound of brotherly love, they definitely rivaled Motown, no doubt
