Funny Ladies Gone But Not Forgotten
One of the funniest ladies I remembered in a long time was the Fruitcake Lady on Jay Leno. I was scratching my head, today because all this bull shit between Jay and Conan lately got me to thinking of The Fruitcake Lady. Don’t ask me why, just did. Her real name was Marie Rudisill passed away on the 3 of November 2006. I can’t believe it ’s been over 3 years since her passing. So toddy at MOB we like to salute Marie with a little montage and a reminder, what to keep clean!!
Andy McElfresh is a comedy writer currently working for Jay Leno on the Tonight Show and his blog has a great article written a few years back on how they found Marie, another great read at: andymcelfresh.com
And for some of you old timers out there, we used to have one funny lady by the name of Moms Mabley. Have to warn ya thou, she didn’t have many(any) teeth, so you have to listen closely to some of her classic lines about her and marriage, still funny today.

No not doing any spicing up at my place. I was going to put a game on my sidebar, but when the music came on I had to get rid of it. Can’t take that. Lots of other people hate the music too.
The Fruitcake Lady was a hoot. I was laughing out loud on almost every question. Good grief.
His shadow weighed more than he did. Bwhahahahahaha. I will say that the old man she married must have been really ugly.
Have a terrific day Glenn. Big hug.
Yes I finally decided to get away from this blog falling apart and made it over to only a few of my favorites and you were number one. I needed a good laugh. I missed the add a caption one, you already closed it, as I sat there trying to think of something to say, I all of a sudden hear this music coming from somewhere. I closed everything down on my puter but your site, cuz I know you wouldn’t have music playing, would ya? But it was you and it made me laugh again. You silly boater. Holes in your boat and in my head

I remember Moms Mabley. I guess that would make me an old timer. Sigh! As for the fruit cake lady, I have a cloudier recollection of her. I used to watch David Letterman more than Leno. I’ll watch the video and see if it doesn’t jog my memory. Very nice tribute. Btw, I hate fruit cakes. IMHO, they taste awful.
NOT OLD AT ALL. Unless I am living in my own mind as still being a teenager. I am wondering what am I going to be when I grow up.
NO ONE liked fruit cake, it was the number one regifter for Christmas. I still think I might have a few packed away, they never go bad, do they??
Funny ladies indeed! I remember Mom’s Mabley from when I was younger, she’d show up on TV here and there, and thinking that her lines were always funnier because of the fact she delivered them without teeth!
Can’t forget Phyliss Diller too – she was old when she was young – but she was CLASSIC on the old Dean Martin roasts!
J Giddy I was going to put Phyliss on also, but only found a few decent clips of her old routines and one about her chicken legs almost made it. But I know there are better ones out there and will find them for sure. She still is funny. All GREAT dames.
Could you imagine actually at a dean Martin Roast unedited???? I wish there were some bootlegs of those around, would love to hear what Jonathon Winters would have come up with.
I’m not familiar with the first funny lady. But I’ve heard stories and seen old clips of Moms Mabley.
In a world full of bad news, laughter is good for the soul
Yes you were even a thought when Moms was around, thank god for historical media in any form. Someday people might be laughing at us Roschelle. Boy that would be awesome huh?
Glenn you have Moms Mabley.. wowww,,, that brings back memories. aww thanks from the bottom of my heart. the fruitcake lady was a trip. she really had a spicy delivery and boy was she always right on point. I so enjoyed her through the years. glad to see the funny ladies. they are truly treasures.
btw, I have a special piece today on the current entrecard virus problem and how to solve or avoid it. check it out. Happy Friday.
God how I remember when my parents laughed. Moms made that possible to relive again and well I never liked fruitcake, but if I had to eat Marie’s you bet your ass I would have said not a word on how bad it tasted, lol

Glenn, Bravo as always. The Fruitcake lady, and Moms, all in one visit…Ya just can’t beat that!
Yep, Phyllis Diller, Bonehead. She was a hoot too. I was way young, but my Dad told me in Vegas, Tahoe, she was really dirty too. Not seen on the Dino Roasts.
Can you all, even imagine all these fine ladies, on today’s, Comedy Central Roasts?
Don’t forget, Betty White, for chrissakes! she’s 80+, and still has IT.
Peace.
We always have to remind ourselves, we don’t last to long here on this planet, and while we are here, we can’t forget to laugh as much as possible.
Don’t think I wasn’t going to add Dillar and White, check below about Dillar. Betty White STILL is funny. But I was laughing my ass off doing just these two and I did go through not only Betty and Phyliss, but also Carol Burnett when she had Tim Conway, Harvey Korman cracking each other up. (I just didn’t want to put in too many oldies at once. We will skew the younger demographic.) Take a little at a time, maybe as soon as they learn to pull up their jeans around their waist. Good to see you DC
Oh my gosh, I remember Moms Mabley. I remember my father used to just crack up at her humor! She is a blast from the past.
She was one funny lady, just sometimes it was hard to understand her with her teeth out LOL
both great ladies, that is for sure.
