Using a Chainsaw When You Really Need a Scalpel

scapelToday I would like to take a break from the usual routine of posting what we usually write about. Whether it is fun facts, stories, crazy videos, or even occasionally a serious subject matter. Today I would like to thank some of my best cyber friends for not only supporting this blog but also for being kind enough to make comments now and then when they do visit.

In the past few months I changed the way I posted.  I use to write much of the posts using just my own thoughts, daily personal happenings and more importantly taking much more time to develop each post, for you, my core “niche” reader.  Now, taking less time to develop a post (in most cases), because I do use more media and I go after a much broader subject and reader “fan” base.

To many serious bloggers this could be construed as “selling out”. I say this because by doing a more “pop culture” type blog, we do get many more visitors each day.  I did this intentionally again for two main reasons. First I have less time each day now then I did when I first started this blog. And secondly  I knew by posting more generic topics, many of them, funny, in the news, high in shock value or provocative,  I could grow our readership.

To me, real bloggers, blog because they have something they believe in or enjoy blogging as a way to tell their story for others to read. They are more personal and they don’t blog strictly to try and grow a larger audience. The more traffic a blog receives, the more  advertisers or sponsors are likely to pay to be in/on your blog.

So in essence I sold out in order to make some money. Plain and simple. Not LeBron type money mind you, (if you think blogging is a lucrative business and you want to follow my lead, by all means go for it.) But I can tell you now, don’t hold your breath if you think you can retire from the working world and live off the proceeds you make from a blog. It just ain’t gonna happen, unless you’re famous, or damn lucky.  I can also tell you, the time you spend on doing even a blog like this one, your time would be better spent working at McDonald’s part time.

With that being said, time to get back on topic. I have a very small following of MOB “fans”. These are the people that keep me going. These are the folks who I read every word they write in their comments. These are the bloggers who are the real deal. Most all of them have their own blogs and damn good ones at that. It is because of them, this post is being written.  I want to recognize them, not as a reward, but more of a shout out, for you to go and visit them. Believe me, honestly, you will be glad you did, because they write blogs that they personally invest their time, effort and soul into. They are not superficial like we are and after you read a couple of posts from their blogs, you will see why I visit them regularly. Some you will love, some maybe not so much, but if you find perhaps two or three you really like, then I did what I set out to do. These folks are good at blogging and much like a weekly drama or sit-com, you will keep going back to see what the have to new to deliver.

I will miss a few, that I know and for those of you that I do miss, my apologies. When I get some free personal time again,  I hope to write part two of this to include your blog also.

Oh and why the title?  When you look at blogs and see that there are literally over 200 million of them, you can understand that this list is but a small incision and not a massive cut.

OK so here are some of my favorite blogs and friends. I will get part two out very shortly for the other blogs I believe you should go and check out. They are not in any particular order. I simply did it by alphabetically order. They are also not massively known blogs to the general public like a Perez Hilton or CNN dot com. They are very much like going over to a friends house and enjoying a beverage, with some great conversations included.

This list starts at A and ends at I, sorry my fingers are worn out and I don’t want you to lose interest if I put in all the blogs I love. So please stop by and when part two is up shortly.

Agoosa : This is written by a Katherine who also writes a few others, all entertaining. How she finds the time to write more then one blog, work and raise a family is totally beyond my capabilities, but she does it. Her other blogs are easy to find by going to Agoosa and clicking on her links there. Yes it’s a funny name, but she’s a witty gal, who I thank for being a friend.

Ancient Digger : OK this one isn’t a funny blog, but it’s damn interesting. Every time I go there I learn some great new facts about the world we live in, in particular our historic world.  Lauren is the author and much like Katherine, has a few other blogs, goes to college trying to earn a PHD and here I am complaining I don’t have the time to write this one blog. Damn over achievers! They don’t help me get any sympathy.

Anns Snap, Edit and Scrap : I love Ann’s blog! It is comfortable, like a pair of your favorite jeans. There is no rocket science here, just plain old fun and well cute stories. She loves to take pictures, always a plus and you get to learn about Ann, who is just a very decent human being. That in itself, is worth the visit. But there’s one more thing that I personally enjoy the most, his name is Duke.

As The Crackerhead Crumbles : Jerry is the author here and he is a devote religious dude. As you can see by his blogs title, he is not going to hit you over your head and try to convert you. He has a great blog that includes many non religious topics also. Jerry is also someone I think highly of, as you will see when you visit. You see,  every week he has a post much like this one, where he finds some of the most unique blogs for you to visit that you would have normally miss.

Bone Head Blog : His name is Joe, but goes by J Giddy. He’s a lucky bastard who has a gorgeous wife who also has her own blog that rocks called Spotlight On Long Island, which if you happen to live on LI gives to the rundown on everything that’s happening in your backyard. But the Bonehead is down right funny ass shit. Although he doesn’t post as much as he used to, something about he works and doesn’t have the time as he once did (where have I heard that whine before). When he does post, you will laugh hard. I can;t tell you how many times I literally laughed out loud because this guy knows comedy and think he should be doing stand up. Visit both, and you will be doubly happy.

ComedyPlus : This particular blog is personally my favorite. A blog that devotes itself to putting a smile and a laugh every day of the week for you. You can spend one minute there or all afternoon, because Sandee is one prolific poster. More than that, Sandee means the world to me, as she does to everyone she touches and personally gets to know. An ex cop who now enjoys her life on the ocean with her very own Captain. Sandee was my very first blogger friend, who personally took the time to help me in anyway I needed and I will never forget that. If you’re lucky enough to be one of her friends, which is now in the thousands and that ain’t no lie. Then you will a blessed person. Just saying……

Confessions of a Fitness Diva : If your serious about getting in shape and don’t mind the help with one great piece of eye candy to help you achieve your goals, then you owe me big. Both men and women flock there and you can see why. I personally am so happy that videos have been added to help you learn the correct posture when working out. Yvonne is from NYC and what she can teach you no matter where you live, is so beneficial and healthy.

Cute As A Buggy : Donna is a mom who knows how to enjoy life and spread that to everyone who visits her often very funny family blog. She a terrific writer who will keep you entertained to the last word. I guess you could call it a Mommy Blog with benefits.

Don E Chute : Ah finally a political blog by a guy by the of Don, duh. This isn’t what you would call literally a political blog by any stretch though. Don has a way with words, he even invents them, go check out Urban Dictionary.  But to me this blog is one I check often and believe it or not I get psyched when a new post goes up. I can never just scan any of the posts, which I can’t say about to many blogs. You will find yourself getting caught up into Dons world and become a cheerleader just like I am. God now I am hearing the theme song to Rocky in my head.

In Jaynes World : OK bet you can’t guess the name of the blogger in this one. Sorry that was lame, but lame isn’t a word you can remotely use with this authors posts. She is decisive, usually, funny, always and commands the English language the way I wish I could. You won;t be sorry unless you fail to click on Jaynes World!!!

Inconsequential Logic: Her name is Roschelle and besides being a good friend and comrade on bloggery. She is fun , lots of fun. You read her thoughts in her posts and you can relate. The blog is comfortable like a pair of your favorite worn out jeans. I love to stop by, to see whats up in her world. You to will get swept up, as I did and you will be very happy you did. Love you Roschelle!!

  1. ann

Aw Glenn you made my day with your kind words about my blog. I feel quite honored to be on this list. Many of these bloggers I already know and love, for those I don’t know yet I’m on my way to check them out.

  2. Aww Glenn, I’m so honored and humbled by the kind words. Like you, I have sold out a bit at Friends Revolution, posting more media savvy articles to gain readers. Hey, I have to pay the bills somehow.

Ancient Digger is a mystery to me sometimes. I’ve worked and worked on it for over a year, have a pagerank 6, but the reader base it not what it should be. I still love it and I maintain it to learn about history as well as teach archaeology to others.

You have been a wonderful help to me and mentor. Thanks again
