1. Pedal Pumpers: This one was so irresistible we even found a video for you all. For some odd reason, when a woman’s car doesn’t start or get stuck, say in the snow, the first thing they do is ……….. step on the gas pedal. Tonight is the big night for the movie industry.  Tonight Sunday March 7th is the 82nd Academy Awards.  Fashion takes a front seat  not only for what is up on the big screen but more importantly what will they be wearing on the Red Carpet.

But we can highlight the most familiar (no doubt) scenarios and give you a cross-sectioned, 3-D snapshot of her brain at that moment along with a little bonus perspective. Here, the top 10 confounding girlfriend mysteries, defounded:

Mystery No. 1: She wears killer shoes.

She insists on wearing shoes that have no resemblance to the human foot, then complains that her feet are killing her.

Her brain:

She knows how sexy these skyscraper heels make her legs look — no matter what her weight. (Bonus: Unlike her other clothes, her shoes always fit since her feet stay the same size.) There is a God.

How to handle:

Don’t even try to convince her that loafers are sexy. Besides, you too like how those heels make her stems look! Just make sure she has a chair, stool or lap to sit on at all times.

Mystery No. 2: She’s fickle with frenemies.

She can go from BFF to mortal enemy with someone within 48 hours (and revert back in 72).

Her brain:

They talk a lot more than guys, start talking younger, and in general, use a lot more words. So of course women argue more — it’s a numbers game.

How to handle:

Is this really crazy behavior? What do two boxers do at the end of bloody fight? They hug like old high school pals. See, we aren’t that different. Just try to jump ahead and envision her endgame, and you’ll get fewer surprises.

Mystery No. 3: Her self-esteem is a fashion victim.

An article of clothing can make her feel thin or fat.

Her brain:

Since she’s been old enough to point and say “I want,” she has been subliminally and not so subliminally marketed to. Of course she actually believes that those pants — and this hairspray, that lip gloss and that perfume — can actually make her into a different person (the pushup bra excluded, ingenious wicked invention that was).

How to handle:

Tell her that nothing makes her look fat to you and that her skinny clothes indeed make her look very lean. She’ll roll her eyes at how dumb you are in the first scenario (“Just look at my ass in that skirt! It needs its own zip code!) and smile at the second.

Mystery No. 4: She gets flash hunger attacks.

When she gets hungry, she has to eat “right now” or she’ll faint. (Didn’t she see it coming?)

Her brain:

It’s just wired more delicately when it comes to intake and output of energy. Because of hormonal changes throughout the month, at times she needs more “fuel” than others. Plus, she’s by nature a caretaker, so tuning into her own grumbling stomach comes last. Result: You have that girl clawing at you to stop at a 7-Eleven for a snack of nuts … or anything!

How to handle:

Don’t take this as a nuisance; see it as a fantastic opportunity to look like a great guy when you stop to get her a yogurt or banana.

Mystery No. 5: She clonesher clothes.

She buys multiple items of clothing that look exactly the same.

Her brain:

Girlfriend: “How does this look?” (You squint. Don’t say it. Don’t! We warned you.) You: “Don’t you have one just like it?” The consequences: She rewards you with a long list of reasons why the second identical little black thingie is better than the first.

How to handle:

Instead of stating the obvious, the correct response would have simply been, “Great!” Plus, now you know what to get her for Valentine’s Day: something that looks exactly like something she has.

Mystery No. 6: She bans many foods.

One food can become vilified virtually overnight. (Salad dressing has to be on the side, etc.)

Her brain:

Every week, magazine after magazine uncovers a new reason America is obese. Add to this the Armageddon-like disaster of a hint of cellulite somewhere, and no wonder she can count a meal’s calories faster than you can say, “We’re ready to order.”

How to handle:

Encourage less neurotic eating habits, and make sure to over-tip the poor bullied waitress who was interrogated about e-v-e-r-y s-i-n-g-l-e ingredient in her dish.

Mystery No. 7: She’s BFFs with celebs.

She feels perfectly entitled to talk about an actress/singer/socialite and that celebrity’s outfits/boyfriend/makeup in detail, though she’s never actually met her (and probably never will).

Her brain:

She’s grown up with Lindsay and Britney. Their pain has been hers; their struggles and successes hers as well.

How to handle:

You can either fight the power by making her clarify “Lohan” or “Spears” every time or just know that it’s one of 20 celebs that are pretty much interchangeable anyway.

Mystery No. 8: She preps forever.

“Throwing on some jeans” takes at least half an hour.

Her brain:

Looking “spontaneous” takes time and effort. Her mental process: “Makeup, a touch-up with the curling iron … hmm, maybe I’ll floss while it warms up. Better cover up that zit too.”

How to handle:

Take a chill pill on this one.

Mystery No. 9: She hairballs the pipes.

Much like steel wool, small dense nests of her long hair clog the sink and shower drains constantly.

Her brain:

She has to trim, color, style, straighten, curl and fluff. We assume you don’t.

How to handle:

This is the price you pay for her beauty: having to yank this stuff out of bathroom pipes. Just look unphased.

Mystery No. 10: She’s 360-degree self-obsessed.

She’s as obsessed about looking as good from the back and sides as from the front (hence the yoga-inspired contortions in front of the mirror to inspect herself from all angles).

Her brain:

Half the time people look at her, it’s from the back, right?

How to handle:

Keep in mind you benefit when you get a glimpse of that thong peeking out from her pants — which she’s totally aware of. See how it all works?

It can often be confusing and overwhelming trying to figure out if a girl is interested in you. Women can often seem to give contradictive signs, or none at all. I can speak from personal experience, as well as my wifes’s experiences that men often seem to miss their hints. Most of the time men will not pick up on signs that she is interested.

It’s not only frustrating for her, but also for you if you find out that she liked you after it may be too late. Not only did you possibly lose your chance, but she’s probably rather irritated with you. She may feel like you weren’t interested in her by not picking up her subtle signs, and therefore feel rejected. No need to fret. I’m going to give you some lessons on how to pick up on women’s hints.

Signs she’s into you:

1. Difference in Assertiveness Women are all different. Some are extremely shy about letting you know they like you. Some have no issues about being straightforward and letting you know what they want. This can get confusing. The assertive ones will let you know that they like you by asking you out, or simply telling you. The not-so-assertive ones will throw subtle hints, such as bumping into you constantly, or making sure she is consistently in your sight. She may also wear nice clothes and do her makeup when she knows you will be around.

2. Physical Signs She may touch you in a playful or friendly manner. Maybe she softly taps you on the arm in a seemingly playful fashion, or touches your hair (or head) while talking to you. These moves may be a sign that she is interested. If a someone witnesses this behavior, ask their opinion. Others may be able to pick up on it quicker than you can.

3. The questions If she asks about your personal life, she just might be into you. She could ask what you are doing tonight, about your hobbies, what you do on the weekend, or any other personal question. This most likely means that she likes you.

4. Friends She makes it a point to introduce you to her friends. A lot of girls want to get the opinion of her girlfriends. They want you to know who her friends are, and visa versa. This may be her start to have a fun night out as a group.

5. Her Look You notice that she is dressing a little differently around you, even something understated as new makeup or hairstyles. She might just be doing it hoping that you will notice. Tell her she looks good. Compliment her on her makeup or hair. The bottom line is that she probably won’t be the assertive type. If she were, then she wouldn’t give up until you knew that she was interested, or at least acknowledged that she was. You must keep an eye out for the signs a women will give: dressing nice when you are around, constantly starting conversation with you, making direct eye contact, touching you when she feels it’s alright, etc. make sure you ask those around you what they think, because they will notice it faster than you might. If she is showing these subtle signs of interest, she is waiting for you to make the next move. Tell her you like her, or ask her out!

I originally started to blog because I wanted to pass on tips to guys about mainly two subjects: fashion and investing. It has pretty much consumed me for the past two months. So much so, my dear wife is wondering if I am carrying on an affair with someone on the internet.

But each day the posts seem to come from thin air and deep inside somewhere in my subconscious, they combine or collide together and the end result lies here in between yesterday and tomorrows post.

I would like to narrow my topic of discussion to a few main ideas, but those ideas have to yet show up. Fashion and finance have had to share, many other subjects. So this is what you, the reader gets. Sometimes a coherent article, most of the time a splatter of my muddles thoughts

I recently was asked to guest post at Blogs With Wings and did a piece aptly named ” Why Blog?”  Basically I came to the conclusion we do this as an extension of ourselves and that you the reader are our sounding boards and consulars at the same time.

Lately I have tried to balance my time on here and my personal time with my family, to make more equal. In doing so, I still find myself wanting to check the emails, or comments when I am away from the computer. But now I wait longer to check the blog and glad that I did. When I do come back ot the blog it is nice to see many new comments and each time it is a nice present.

My wife and I finished a movie this evening called the Julie/Julia which was a nice movie, not great by any means. It involved a woman who was close to her thirtieth birthday and felt something missing in her life so she decided to blog. A blog about cooking her way through the Julia Child French Cookbook and post on her progress.

Of course her ending was happy, she was giving of movie contract, book contract and probably a few more great opportunities, because she started a blog. She was also very lucky.

I know that isn’t the reason we start blogs, to get a movie based on our blogs. Nor do any of us feel that someday we will be able to retire and just become a blogger. I am sure out of over 200 million blogs out there the chance of that happening is probably 5 in 200 million, which are probably the same odds as hitting the lottery.

But I believe each of us who do write a blog,  in the back of their head, feel that maybe our blogs mean something to someone. It’s funny how it grows into an important piece of your personal psyche. Exposing yourself daily to people you have never met nor most likely ever will.

After watching the movie I went to the Julies blog and their it was, the last post done I believe in Aug of 2004. It was a time capsule, a glimpse of someones life they had spent for a year writing. It had an beginning and an end. While the blog no longer is updated, it is still there, open for anyone to read at any time. Like a book on the bookshelf.

It gave me a a new outlook on my blog. It raised more questions then answers I am afraid. But clearly it made me think. To narrow down why I am blogging, keeping to the subject matter of the blog. And to finish what I have started and to think about an ending point.

Of couse this is a fairly new blog, so it is evolving each day as I write it.  While I am not thinking about what the end of this blog will look like, or at what date. It does make me think harder at what I am trying to accomplish with it.

The one major decision that I will start involves the frequency of my posts on here. I have been updating on a daily basis, which on many days is getting harder to do. The first month it was really quite easy, as I had many things to say. But now it is increasingly harder to post on something meaningful.  So instead of a daily post, I will be cutting back and will post a few times a week. Hopefully with a better outcome and something that you will want to read from start to finish.

We have been blessed with a great following and one we hope never to disappoint or annoy. OK maybe annoy a little. We try are hardest to lighten your day, each and every day. By posting a funny or wacky post, helpful tips on fashion, finance and of course the opposite sex. Our main objective is to get across to you, our readers,  how much we enjoy to blog and the passion we have,  to try and help the men out there to look and feel better about themselves.

This isn’t a blog about rocket science nor is it a blog that is retreaded material. However we do acknowledge when we do use others peoples words we always give credit to them when we reprint them.

This is the part of the post that we hope no one takes offense to. We have been acknowledged by other great blogs and readers for being one of their favorite blogs, honest blogs, funniest blogs, or (insert your adjective here) blogs and in so doing we are HIGHLY honored and want to extend our sincerest thanks. But we do not write this each day with the hopes of achieving such awards and while they are a very nice benefit for doing something we enjoy so much, but there is no need for such recognition.

The past two weeks trying to get a post up each day and just running the behind the scene mechanics of this blog, it leaves us very little time to do much else. Unless we are willing to sacrifice time that we have set aside to devote to family and other personal activities. To acknowledge every award and to then also post about them, along with having to pass them on to other worthy blogs is one thing we must say thank you so much, but we cannot accept them any longer.

We hope this doesn’t offend anyone, as it not meant to. All we ask for is an occasional comment from you as the best award we could ever ask for. BELT OR BRACES (SUSPENDER)

After you got the job dressing correctly should become part of your lifestyle and a daily routine. In the beginning you should work at it until it you are proficient, competent and confident. Find the clothes that fit right, make you look good and are adaptable to other articles in your clothes closet.

Dress according to the type of work you do. Dressing professionally is more important in some industries than others. Conservative careers demand that you wear conservative clothing. Wearing loud and casual clothing may make you come off as not serious or incompetent.

Start with the basics. It is best to start your career wardrobe with some classic clothing pieces: the black or dark navy suit, white button-down shirts, black or dark gray pants, and the tailored sport coat. These pieces are quite versatile. You can mix and match them with a few trendy pieces for those days when you want to dress casually but professionally and tastefully. Out of fashion and outdated clothes make you look dowdy. The key is to look stylish but simple. Look confident but never stiff. Never let the fashionista in you run wild. Save that for Saturday nights on the town. Always keep your clothes neat and clean. Pants, shirts and all your other clothes should be properly ironed and in good condition. When you’re clothes look sloppy, so will you.

Put your best shoe forward. They must not be scruffy and should always be clean and polished.

Pay attention to your workplace image. It is a powerful non-verbal communicator. Appearing stressed or portraying a harried image no matter how smart you are at work can work against you. Take a look at successful businessmen and other highly professional people, they are always busy and have a lot of work to deal with but they are always impeccably dressed and groomed.

Although looks and appearances aren’t everything, first impressions do count. Never underestimate. It is difficult to overcome a poor first impression no matter what knowledge you have in your field.

You should always look your part. Make sure your appearance is consistent with your message of professionalism and success. You are more likely to command more respect or get what you want if you are dressed appropriately.

In today’s job market, competition is at an all time high with very few opportunities to land an interview, let alone being hired. It is said that Will Rogers once remarked, ‘You never get a second chance to make a first impression’. The importance of your first encounter with an organization that you are applying for employment should always be a professional one. People make a judgment about you and how they will interact based on your clothes … A person will size you up in a matter of 15 seconds as you walk into the room. … Recruiters form a first impression within the first 30 seconds that being said. You will impress upon them what kind of person you are by how you are dressed.

Employers want to see that job candidates have made the effort to dress appropriately for the work environment, said Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director of Robert Half Technology. While a suit isn’t the best choice for every interview, it’s better to err on the side of overdressing versus appearing too casual.

In a recent study the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences stated:

The greatest part of the research on the influence of clothes on impression formation and management was conducted in business situations and is related to conventional or classic clothing style. These studies have shown that the applicant’s clothing at interview has an influence on whether he or she will get a job, and that classically or conventionally dressed people are more positively evaluated. Classic or conventional clothing includes a suit for both men and women and a tie for men. It has been proven that this style of clothing is associated with competence and authority in both men and women, not only in business situations.

The tie:

Become smarter by wearing a tie! While this sounds crazy at face value the same research attributed the following by simply adding a tie to your outfit:

‘It’s established that men with high educational level significantly more frequently wore a tie than men with medium and lower education at usual work days, business meetings, cultural events, travel by plane, and travel by other means of transportation. Besides that, at weddings, funerals, festive, and family gatherings, men with high educational level significantly more frequently wore a tie than men with lower educational level. Men with medium educational level on average wore a tie significantly more often than men with lower education level.’

Who would have thought that silk would improve your perceived IQ?

Not to mention the added benefit to a man’s image to the opposite sex.

Women significantly more than men attributed successfulness, capability, physical attractiveness, and romantic characteristics to men who frequently wear a tie.

Finally the tie is the article of clothing that gets noticed first. Therefore the importance of choosing the right tie is critical. The tie projects your personality. But for a professional interview keeping subtle and conservative will bode well for success. Leave your Bart Simpson or Flintstone tie at home. A simple two color stripe will do fine, try to match either the background or one of the stripes to the color of your suit.

If you can introduce red into the tie, good, it is attributed as a Power Tie. (Exactly what is a Power Tie is open for discussion, that being said if you do a Google search for Power Tie you will come across merely 14 million answers) Stay away from a solid color (Donald Trump), stripes or a simple pattern will give the interviewer a sample of your personality. Stay way from extremes in width and make sure your knot as the appropriate dimple. Depending on the width of the collar on your shirt the knot should correspond accordingly. If you are wearing a spread collar a full Windsor is the best knot. A button down collar stay with a half Windsor or four-in-hand.
