The first modern cell phones in the US first appeared in the USA in Chicago. It was the put out by Ameritech in 1983 using the famous first hand-held mobile phone Motorola DynaTAC.

The DynaTAC was the first commercially available cellular phone small enough to be easily carried, and made the first phone call from it. The DynaTAC’s retail price, $3,995 ($8724 in present-day terms). It was huge compared to today’s cells and weighed on at a whopping 28oz or approximately 2 pounds and was over 10 inches in height.

The DynaTAC has become associated with the 1980s in popular culture, and has been heavily used in film and media set in that period.The phone is well known for being used by Gordon Gekko in movie Wall Street.

Of course as technology advanced, components shrank and prices dropped, the era of mobile “on the fly” communications came into the day to day vernacular.

Here is a fun and interesting pictorial of the phones, some which you might have owned at one time and some cells that you might not have ever seen before. Each one having a few new gadgets or apps that the one before it lacked. The same goes today and what the future will bring will amaze you now and become old hat within a 6 month period.

With the introducing of the iPhone, cell phones are no longer just used for talking. They are starting to morph into mobile computers that as you will see towards the end the pictures, part of your wardrobe and/or accessories.

Not to spend anymore time on what I feel is a worthless bit of technology that Apple developed and honestly still had no idea what the hell people would use it for. After exhausted research and looking through all the various apps for the iPad, I went directly to the developers to find out exactly what the number one use is for this new irritating machine is.

After viewing and talking to the developers, it become clear to us here at MOB what exactly the iPad was developed for. I must say that the price tag is very high for folks who will be using it. But really can you put a price on something that will give you hours upon hours of pleasure?

Time flies, especially when searching the web and to think 40 years ago we did not have this WWW available to the masses. No Face Book or Google, no Tweets or YouTube. I know many readers out there could not imagine being able to log on, tune in and space out. Yet 40 years ago Leonard Kleinrock sent the first internet message, which was “LO” had he only added one more L he would have been thought of everyday, LOL

The English language is most definitely butchered because of the Internet. Our new formed lettered abbreviations, that most people over 50 have no idea what they stand for. The net is only growing stronger, even though it is riddled with viruses. Our suburban malls used to be meccas for shopping, now they are overgrown food courts where another dinosaur still lingers the vast multiplex with it’s 18 magnificent screens. We don’t get rained on when we virtual shop and god only knows what we are wearing when we look at the newest movie release in DVD quality that has the always present scroll warning that this copy was stolen and to please report the owners.

Yet like it or not, the net is now a middle aged organism, who can ramble in over 154 foreign languages, serve up porn as easily as Avon and if you want to grab your 15 minutes of fame simply do an absolute crazed act upon your neighbor while your iPhone captures it so you can then make it go viral for everyone in the world to view. Yesterday was a hit song by the Beatles, today most popular hits are now how many people have viewed your neighbor in the nude.

For all its good and bad I met my wife, bought my house and dog, sold my truck,vinyl records and became a Power Seller, all from the ease of my office. We can earn our degrees, self treat our ailments and self medicate while listening to a band that consists of one teenager and a laptop who you swore had to be an orchestra. We can find the cheapest air fares, book our vacation and buy short sleeve shirts, shorts and sandals as the snow swirls outside.

We can buy and sell our stock, have our bank accounts infiltrated and become a millionaire virtually overnight from this 2 pound companion that travels with us on vacation.

The next 40 years if I live to be that ripe age of 90, which statistically is more likely now then 40 years ago, according to our new library of Wikipedia which states proudly followed my an asterisk and a” citation needed”. I have no clue how the world wide web will evolve and in what form.

As the Internet has become ubiquitous, faster, and increasingly accessible to non-technical communities, social networking and collaborative services have grown rapidly, enabling people to communicate and share interests in many more ways.

My hope is that I am still able to buy my Girl Scout cookies at the stand in front of the supermarket. Where I can buy the ingredients to prepare my heart healthy meal clinching the recipe in hand that spewed out from my wireless printer. LOL TTNF
